Hello. I have a 1993 BMW E36. Although the leather is in good condition not torn or broken it has become shiny and it is originally matte. Is this product enough to get it back to a matte finish or would I need something else? Thanks

COLOURLOCK UK replied on 2021-07-19 11:46:13 :

Hi, It should bring it to original finish, it just depends what cause the leather to get shiny effect. If you could send us few good quality photos to info@colourlock.com, we can then recommend the best products. Best Regards

Yves Gouin asked on 2021-06-18 14:25:50:

What is the difference between leather shield and leather protector and why we should apply the firs one on new leather and the second on 3 years and older leather ?

COLOURLOCK UK replied on 2021-06-18 15:03:07 :

New leather within the first three years should be protected with Leather Shield. New leather doesnt need any re-greasing oils or any other kind of treatment, as its still fully protected by the tanning process.Common problems with new leathers arise due to general wear and dye transfer from clothing which penetrates into the leather colouration. The drivers seat especially the side bolster is mostly affected by signs of wear after a few years and develops scuff marks . Light coloured leathers are more often discoloured by denim stains or dye transfer from other clothing. The Leather Shield only creates an invisible layer on top of the leather, and prevents these happening. We recommend protecting the contact areas on the driver's seat every three months and other contact areas every six to twelve months.Older leathercars more than 2 to 3 years old need more oils and antioxidants care to stay soft. Such leathers should therefore be treated with Leather Protector. Leather Protector contains oils, UV filters and antioxidants. Protect older leather every three to six months to ensure the leather remains soft and smooth. The anti-oxidizing components stop degradation of the leather and extend the life span.If the leather is more than 2 to 3 years old, then you can actually use both products together, however, it's important to apply the Leather protector first, then wait 3-4 days, to let the leather slowly absorb the protector, and then apply the leather shield on high contact areas, to protect the leather from friction damage and dye transfer.Best regards.

Mike Baird asked on 2021-02-23 08:34:59:

I have a 2017 Chevy SS with perforated leather with suede inserts. I know I cant use any of these products on that. But can i used and which one on the rest of the seat? The car only has 30,000 miles on it and seats have been conditioned periodically. Also once conditioned with your product can I use the sheild product? Mike

COLOURLOCK UK replied on 2021-02-24 11:52:10 :

You can use the Leather Cleaning & Conditioning Kit on the leather parts, and use our Alcantara & Fabric Care Kit on the suede inserts. You can use the Leather Protector and the Shield combined, but it's important to apply the Leather protector first, wait 2-3 days to let the leather absorb the protector, and then apply the Leather Shield. For more information, please send us an email to info@colourlock.com. Best regards.

Charles Wardle asked on 2020-12-23 19:50:58:

I have a 1994 porsche 911 993 140,000 miles with mid grey leather. The leather has not been cleaned since 84,000 miles when I purchased it 16 years ago. The only major soiling is on the steering wheel. The seats are actually in fine condition without cracking although I'm sure they will come up several shades lighter!!. I've had some dye renovation done on a small area of the driver's squab, but again no cracking. I have tried to find out whether my leather has been OM treated or not but with no success people say that this defines how you should clean??. I'm leaning towards one of your smooth leather kits with mild leather cleaner/protector, but am I correct? Thanks. Regards. Charles

COLOURLOCK UK replied on 2020-12-24 11:35:43 :

Hi Charles,Is there any colour damage on the steering wheel, or is it only dirt? Is the steering wheel black? Can you please send us a couple of good quality photos to inf@colourlock.com,. so we can better recommend suitable products to restore the steering wheel? Best regards.

On new leather car, after the initial treatment, how often should it be renewed and do you clean it first with the cleaner or just clean with cloth and apply the treatment again? Like every 3 months?

COLOURLOCK UK replied on 2020-11-11 12:13:24 :

Hi,Please note our Leather Cleaning and Conditioning Kit is suitable for cars over 3 years. For new cars we have our New Leather Care Set which is for cars less than 3 years. We recommend to re apply the product every 3-6 months, depends of the usage. Please let us know if you have any further questions,Best regards,Ana

If we do have a sample of your colour you could order it directly online making sure you select the correct colour from the drop down.If we don't have your colour, you can either send us a sample, or you can try to find a good match in our standard colour chart. I have a new pair of nappa leather knee length riding boots. What is the best way to protect them before wearing them? Inevitably they are going to get wet and muddy.

COLOURLOCK UK replied on 2017-02-18 16:21:13 :

Hi Liz,Are the shoes porous? Please test by rubbing a drop of water in a hidden area. They are easier to look after, clean and protect if they are not porous. We'll wait to hear more from you so we can recommend exact products.

Seo Song asked on 2016-12-11 18:17:04:

I have nappa leather for vehicle upholstery. I recently used leather cleaning product and left some shiny surface. Its only been a day so we will see about this. Thus, i would like to know if this will cause the same result. I wanna know if this will bring the good result for nappa leather. Thanks!

COLOURLOCK UK replied on 2016-12-11 18:31:05 :

Dear Song,Thank you for the enquiry. A leather cleaner on its own should not make the leather appear shinier. Which part of the car seat was this on? Did you apply a care product after cleaning which could have caused this? With regards to the kit, if its just general dirt, the mild leather cleaner should suffice. The Leather Protector gives a satin finish. There are other ways to reduce the gloss level if normal cleaning does not help. I recommend you send us a private message on info@colourlock.com with detailed photos of the area in question. Hope this helps and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
